Mission

AMBA’s Mission is primarily to through public education, to encourage the adoption of the wild equine by responsible individuals, and to work in concert with BLM to preserve the species.

 

Our long-range goal is to build an organization that will be internationally recognized as one of the leading equine groups in the world. Other immediate goals are to:

raise public awareness about Mustang Horses.
publicize the AMBA as a National Registry for Mustangs and Burros and increase membership in the organization.

 

AMBA’s objectives consist of educating the public about the history of the Mustang Horse, adoption programs via BLM and demonstrating that Mustangs are excellent horses for riding, and educating the public about BLM and their role in maintaining the herds.
 

 
History of the Organization AMBA
The American Mustang and Burro Association, Inc. is a national non-profit tax exempt organization [IRS 501 (c) (3)] dedicated to the protection and preservation of wild equine, to public education and awareness and to adopter support. William Barrett, Valley Mills, TX founded the AMBA, INC. in 1981. The headquarters was transferred to Liberty Hill, TX in 1983 and Dee Dee King served as Executive Secretary through 1989. For the next three and a half years Barbara J. Rehfield directed the organization as Chief Executive Officer, with headquarters in Benton City, WA. On May 1, 1993, the headquarters moved to Lincoln, CA and George W. Berrier, Jr. assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer till his death when Mark Davis stepped in as Acting Chief Executive Officer and is serving in that function currently.
