Mission

The Carver Development Board provides financial support to the Carver Community Cultural Center. The Center has a rich and diverse history as a major element of the San Antonio Texas African American Community dating back to 1905. Through presentations, programs and services, we reach more than 25,000 adults, youth and children annually. The Carver provides challenging artistic presentations, community outreach and educational programs that emphasize the diverse cultures of our world, nation and community, and with particular emphasis on our African American heritage.

Carver Community Cultural Center

Our program has three main focuses:

1. Presentations of main stage performances and associated artist's residencies in dance, music, theater, and visual arts;

2. Providing a low-cost venue for community presentations and meetings;

3. Educational Outreach to our community with three main components:

a. The Carver School for the Visual and Performing Arts, which provides instruction by qualified professional artists to students of all ages

b. The Carver Residencies, created around the artists from our season's performances and which works with both professional and amatuer artists

c. The Carver Youth Matinee Series, which offers free performances by outstanding artists to school age children throughout the San Antonio area, accompanied by a curriculum for their teachers. Additionally, our Carver Gallery presents exhibitions of professional local, regional and national artists, with an emphasis on under-represented groups.
