Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We want to give all Park City students the opportunities and skills to successfully navigate a dynamic world, one filled with exciting changes and new challenges we can’t even imagine. We want them to become tomorrow’s creative innovators, problem solvers, and leaders. That means our schools and educators must constantly evolve, and our funding supports that evolution. The impacts of the pandemic means there are additional needs for our teachers and students. As well, the state of Utah ranks last in the country for per-pupil funding, and 96% of Park City's state-collected education tax dollars go to other school districts. Our schools don’t have the money they need for programs that district families have come to depend upon. We fund eight signature initiatives and within those are more than a hundred programs, supported annually by PCEF with a $1.5 - $2 million dollar contribution. Together we can ensure every Park City student thrives, regardless of present challenges.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Preschool
The Park City School District Preschool Program offers preschool to 3 and 4 year-olds, and PCEF partners to keep the costs affordable to all working families. Long-term studies show that quality, affordable preschool increases high school graduation rates, years of college completed, and lifetime earned income.
Not only that, but every dollar we invest in preschool provides a $13 return—because when the education gap is addressed before kindergarten, we limit the need for expensive interventions in the early elementary years. With your help, PCEF is working to make quality preschool affordable for all families. It’s an investment in all our futures.
Elementary Visual Arts (EVA)
Art plays an important role in student success. It nurtures creativity, problem solving, and confidence and helps every child feel successful.
Unfortunately, art funding was removed from the Utah elementary curriculum decades ago. But thanks to funding from PCEF and a partnership with the Kimball Art Center, we’re able to bring art back to the classroom, allowing our 1500 students to learn from the masters—from Seuss to Seurat and Dali to Degas. Help us continue this important program.
Afterschool
PCEF provides funds to the Park City School District Afterschool program to ensure all working families in our community have access to quality support after the school bell rings.
The programs at all four elementary schools and middle and junior high schools provide a rich experience in a safe and supportive environment. This includes homework help, literacy and science activities, cultural opportunities and more.
Your contributions make Afterschool affordable for all Park City families.
Educator and Student Wellness
The pandemic showed us just how essential it is to support educators and students beyond pure academics. That’s why we invest thousands of dollars in programs that promote mental wellness for our educators who’ve been on the frontlines, and for our students who’ve suffered more anxiety and stress than ever before.
Programs from Excellent Educators to Coffee Camper visits help our teachers alleviate stress and deal with challenges. Our long-term initiatives like Preschool, Afterschool, Bright Futures, and programs funded by Classroom Grants have been giving students the hard and soft skills they need to navigate our changing world for decades. And newer programs supporting mindfulness training to calming rooms are building the resilience and resourcefulness students need more than ever - in the classroom and beyond.
Help us foster more wellness. And more teacher and student success.
Real World Learning
Science, technology, engineering, arts, and math. These STEAM disciplines teach students how to think both analytically and creatively. Pair them with real-world projects, and students learn in some of the most effective ways possible: through collaboration and trial and error.
From the elementary coding program to the coffee cart program to makerspaces, to Career and Technical Education (CTE), we nurture creativity and problem solving in every grade. Students can then put what they’ve learned to work in our capstone programs, which allows juniors and seniors to gain professional work experience while still in school: the Park City Center for Advanced Professional Studies (PCCAPS) or the PCHS Transition Program for neuro-diverse students.
Help us turn our students into tomorrow’s problem solvers and innovators.
Bright Futures
Bright Futures changes lives by helping motivated first-generation students get to and through college.
The program walks alongside Park City's first-generation students as they prepare for, succeed in, and graduate college. We make a long-term commitment to our students, providing a college-readiness curriculum, individualized coaching, peer support and financial assistance from 10th grade through college graduation.
Nationally, only 11% of first-generation low-income students graduate with a bachelor's degree by age 24. To date, Bright Futures has a 90% retention rate. With your help, we are improving the odds in Park City.
Classroom and Express Grants
The number one influence on student success is the classroom teacher.
Teachers have the ideas to help their students succeed. PCEF grants make those ideas a reality. Through Classroom Grants we witness firsthand the power of an educator who is given the additional resources they need to engage their students and help them learn.
From long-time programs like Robotics to brand-new programs like Aviation Pathways, educators have used PCEF Classroom Grants to create a more engaging learning environment since 1986.
Help us ensure our educators have the funding they need.
Innovation Lab
No one knows more about what our schools need than those who are in the classroom. So we created Innovation Lab to give educators a voice in PCEF decision-making.
Innovation Lab brings educators together to workshop concepts that will shape education in Park City today - and in the future.
By creating more opportunities to engage, listen, and build relationships, we can ultimately create greater impact in the classroom. We need your help to make their voices heard.
