Mission

We believe that one of the most sacred responsibilities of any generation is to prepare the next one. We want our students to learn about life and to become solid citizens who form strong families, pay taxes and become leaders in their communities. We believe our students want to be challenged to explore everything that gives life value (parenthood, careers and service). We want them to know that responsibility and freedom go hand in hand and that the only way to become happy is to make others happy.

One-on-one Mentoring

One of the strengths of our program is that it can be individually tailored to meet the needs of each student. Our elementary school sessions are typically divided into three parts. Approximately 75 minutes is allotted for academic tutoring, 15 minutes for a character discussion, and 30 minutes for sports and recreation. The Middle School program follows the same basic format but more time is usually allotted for the character/career discussion. Our high school programs typically meet once per month and focus mainly on character development and career planning.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

(1) Provide a dedicated mentor for every qualified child in the schools we serve
(2) Whenever possible continue supporting those students through high-school graduation
(3) Assist both college and non-college bound students to discover valuable career options
(4) Assist the parents through enhanced personal contact and by informational classes

We plan to achieve these goals by implementing a systematic growth program that allows us to grow vertically and horizontally. Using our existing base, we will achieve vertical growth by following our current students as they progress through the educational system, which means adding new middle and high schools.
Horizontal growth will be accomplished by adding an additional middle and high school. Each new program requires approximately 12 mentors and a teacher facilitator.

Ÿ We are currently serving approximately 100 GISD Students:
Ÿ Williams Elementary School in Garland -- 21 Students
Ÿ Sam Houston Middle School in Garland -- 24 Students
Ÿ Sellers Middle School in Garland -- 46 Students
Ÿ Garland Senior High School -- 9 Students
Ÿ All students are considered to be “at-risk” by Federal Guidelines and most have multiple risk factors.

Since our conception in March 2000, over 500 students have participated in our program
Our overall Graduation Rate is 81.9% (82.76% Completion Rate)
All students are considered “at-risk” by Federal Standards (most with multiple factors)
Most have participated for two or more Years and many for over 5 years
The main reason students leave our program is to move to a school where we do not mentor or leaving the district entirely
Several of our Graduates have returned to mentor at their old school
