Program Description

The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas currently offers eleven peer support groups focusing on 7 different types of death loss. Prior to inclusion in any group children and caregivers meet in an extended individual intake session with one of our six licensed professional counselors at no cost to the family. During support group meetings, staff and volunteers utilize expressive therapeutic techniques that incorporate art, writing, music and movement, dance, and dramatic play to help process feelings of grief. This program model helps grieving children develop healthy coping skills, while stabilizing and preserving family relationships.

Many of the families we serve have been devastated, not only emotionally, but also financially by medical, legal and funeral costs. Securing funding partnerships with financial supporters provides the Center with the ability to offer equal access to children and their caregivers in need of our specialized grief support programs at no cost to the family.
