Feeding and Services to the Hungry and Homeless
Our
Daily Bread is a community soup kitchen that serves a free, nutritious lunch
meal Monday through Friday to the hungry and homeless in Denton County and
surrounding areas. Our Daily Bread operates under the auspices and 501 (c)(3)
status of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. This enables those employed to participate in the health and retirement
benefits of the Church. Further, St.
Andrew provides the kitchen and eating facilities, storage space, as well as
space for the Executive Director and volunteers. Clients, however, are Given
the range of services delivered and the fact that there is only one full time
paid staff person (the Executive Director) and three part time staff, the
contribution by volunteers is critical as they provide more than 35,000 hours
per year. They assist with all phases of the operation: food preparation, delivery, and
clean-up; pick-up of donated food, health
services by a physician and registered nurses, assistance with fund-raising and
grant writing, social services referral programs, and many other
activities. The Denton County community
supports Our Daily Bread in many other ways, such as direct donations, in-kind
donations from local retailers and community food gardens, sponsoring
fund-raising events, etc.
