What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre
Rays of Hope Children's Grief Centre
Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Centre is a community outreach of Hospice of Midland. Rays of Hope is passionate about meeting the unique needs of grieving children and their families. The center serves children and adolescents aged 4 to 18 years who have experienced a loss due to death, divorce, separation, incarceration, deployment, foster care or other painful transition.
Pathways
Pathways is a program offered to patients with an advanced, life-limiting illness. This palliative approach to care is community-based and offers guidance, support, and education to its participants and family members. There is no cost to the patient for this service. All medical care continues to be directed by the patient’s personal physician.
Making life-changing choices is often a challenge for people with advanced or chronic illnesses. We offer support to help identify and communicate wishes and goals of care. This helpful program gives you the right information at the right time. It is our aim to help you fulfill your life in a dignified and meaningful way.
We Honor Veterans
Hospice of Midland is a We Honor Veterans level four partner, the highest achievement, and is proud to serve the Veterans of the Permian Basin with our expert care. We Honor Veterans is a national awareness and action campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. This partnership is a coalition of our organization, the Department of Veterans Affairs Department facilities, community organizations and others working together to give excellent end-of-life care to our local Veterans and the necessary support for their families. We are pledged to ensure that no Veteran on our service dies alone or unrecognized.
Community Grief Support
Grief 101: A one-hour class held quarterly offering basic grief information on how to cope with the death of your loved one.
Caregiver's Support: A support group for individuals who are actively caring for loved ones in their home, a nursing home, or assisted living facility. A light lunch is provided. No pre-registration is required for monthly meetings.
Coffee Break for Men: Enjoy coffee and fellowship with other men who have lost a loved one. These are held the first Wednesday of every month.
Friends Who Care: An outreach program for widows & widowers. Friends Who Care embraces those who are hurting and provides meaningful concern and support to cry, laugh and remember. The group meets weekly for snacks, game nights, comradery and more.
Memorial Services: Hospice of Midland offers memorial services for families and friends to honor and remember those they have lost. We encourage all to attend these special services to commemorate the lives of their loved ones.
Bereavement Support Group: A group for adults who are experiencing grief and loss of a loved one. Encouragement and basic coping skills offered in this 6-week series of classes.
Handling the Holidays: A two-session workshop offering support and a guide for how to plan for the holidays without your loved one.
Pet Peace of Mind
Pet Peace of Mind is a national program that enables hospice patients to keep their pets close to them through their end of life journey.
For many in hospice care, changes in their physical condition may lead to a decrease of previously enjoyed social opportunities and relationships. The pets offer unconditional love, acceptance, comfort and companionship when it’s needed most.
Pet Peace of Mind provides helping hands and financial assistance to the pet owner in need. Caring volunteers are able to assist patients with their pet care needs. This loving support relieves the patient’s worry for their pet’s current and future needs.
Hospice Hounds
Pets pay little attention to age or physical ability; they accept people as they are, making them a valuable companion and friend. Visiting with animals is a welcome change from the patient’s daily routine and can help alleviate the feelings of loneliness, depression and stress. Pet interaction is a heart-warming time to look forward to and provides a great distraction from pain and infirmity.
