Mission

Voice of Hope Ministries exists to provide children living in the neighborhoods of West Dallas with strong character models, educational support, life skills, and family support services needed to become productive Christian citizens. Inner-city families are equipped with resources and skills needed to overcome and break the poverty cycle. The ministry seeks to meet the needs by addressing the whole person - spiritual, physical and mental through training, exposure, emergency assistance, affirmation, counseling, networking and partnerships with other community agencies and mentoring.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Voice of Hope Ministries offers programs for all ages, including year round weekly Bible Clubs, After-School Plus+ and tutoring, Youth of Distinction, Summer Day Camp and emergency assistance with utilities, rent, mortgage, food and clothing. The Youth Leadership Development programs include the After School+ care and tutoring program and the Youth of Distinction Club, which includes Entrepreneurship Training, the weekly Promise Kids Clubs, and Job Training for teen workers. The Youth of Distinction Entrepreneurship Program is a new program that will teach our youth ages 11-19 how to start and manage their own businesses. The Reading Recovery program, incorporated in After School Plus+, is dedicated to academic excellence in reading. Over 300 children participate in Voice of Hope's summer youth programs. Summer Day Camp provides children and teens with training in computer skills, math, reading, ethics, etiquette, job training as well as providing exposure to Dallas area resources and opportunity for rich development socially, culturally and spiritually. The Job Training program is one of the unique strengths of Summer Day Camp, providing children as early as 9 years old with foundational skills in developing a healthy work ethic. Children and teens work different assignments during the course of the 10 week program, and they enjoy earning wages and learning how to manage their earnings. The participants are required to contribute to the family, save towards college (funds matched by VOH) and give help to others. Other Summer Day camp highlights include the annual Soccer camp, Money Management Training and a weeklong trip to a Christian camp outside of Dallas. The Family Support Services arm of VOH exists to provide social support for the families of the youth program participants as well as other members of the community. The youth program families benefit from regular assistance, but they also enjoy special seasonal support programs such as Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets and the annual Christmas shoppe. Seniors,Parents and teens are able to purchase new items for their families at one-third of the original retail cost. Other services include emergency assistance for rent and utilities, life skills classes, food and clothing. Family Support caseworkers coordinate with area schools, churches and other agencies to identify resources and serve as advocates. They visit the homes of the youth program families and other emergency assistance applicants in assessing needs. Case managers work with other agencies to meet the social needs of the area seniors, such as with the Meals on Wheels program and Senior's Bible Studies. Family Support Services also participates with area churches to provide a free monthly medical clinic and holds a monthly community crime watchers meeting to prevent crime and drugs from overtaking the neighborhood. Approximately 60% of the VOH social service clients are African American, and 40% are of Hispanic descent.
