Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of the League of Women Voters of Dallas is to empower voters, defend democracy and protect the freedom to vote. Whatever our color, background or zip code, in America we value our freedom and the right to vote. The freedom to have a say in decisions that impact our lives - from curbing the pandemic to creating jobs to providing affordable health care.
The League of Women Voters of Dallas is part of a nonpartisan nonprofit organization operating at the local, state, and national level. We neither support nor oppose candidates or parties.
Please support our work in Dallas County to:
>Encourage voter education and registration for informed and engaged voices in the political decision making process of governing;
>Increase awareness of major public policy issues and decisions made on our behalf through votes by elected officials in Dallas County; and
>Influence public policy through education and advocacy.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our volunteers at the League of Women Voters Dallas are actively engaged in registering voters and listening to the needs of our community members, with a particular focus on those facing barriers to voting. Through extensive research into public voting records, we identify communities with historically low voter turnout and registration rates, especially among different age groups. To bolster voting engagement, we employ a variety of communication methods and strategies from digital to traditional methods and in-person events.

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
