The purpose of Altrusa International Inc. of Downtown Dallas Foundation is:-- to make and award, without limitation as to amount to any one recipient or to all recipients, donations, gifts, contributions, scholarships, grants, fellowships, and/or loans from the income, assets, and property of the corporation;-- to engage in research;-- to conduct seminars and workshops;-- to publish materials;-- to make grants in furtherance of projects of Altrusa International, Inc., and/or Altrusa International Inc. of Downtown Dallas, Inc.;-- to engage in fund raising programs in furtherance of the purposes of the entity;-- to dispose of any and all of the corporation's assets and property to or for the benefit of any corporation, organization, fund, or foundation operated exclusively for charitable, educational, literary, or scientific purposes

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

Tornado Relief for Dallas Independent School District (DISD)--On the evening of October 20, 2019 an EF-3 tornado, one of 10 tornadoes that night, destroyed Thomas Jefferson High School, a public high school located in Northwest Dallas, Texas. Altrusa of Downtown Dallas Foundation raised funding to assist in furnishing and equipping temporary classrooms for the students displaced by the disaster. As of the 5/31/20 year end of the Foundation, research was underway regarding coordination with DISD plans for replacing the destroyed facility.

Feed the Teens at Incarnation House--This organization is an after-school program and youth center that works to equip the youth of inner-city Dallas, Texas for life success by providing access to educational, emotional, and other support services. The students served attend North Dallas High School, an inner-city, urban high school. Over 90% of the students enrolled at the school live under the poverty line, and a majority of the students are considered homeless or housing insecure. Through dinners, creative learning, tutoring, and career guidance Incarnation House works with these students to transform their future and open their eyes to the possibilities ahead of them. Feed the Teens involved preparing and serving twelve monthly dinners to the students utilizing the services of Incarnation House.

Period Project at New Friends New Life--This organization restores and empowers formerly trafficked girls and sexually exploited women and children. By providing access to education, job training, interim financial assistance, mental health, and spiritual support, New Friends New Life helps women and children overcome backgrounds of abuse, addiction, poverty, and limited opportunities. The Period Project involved purchasing necessary feminine hygiene products for the individuals served by the organization, which had no other source for these essential products.
