Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
To provide housing, medical care and find new homes for all cats and dogs that come into our care. To maintain the shelter and individual kennels in such a manner that disease is minimized and health is maximized. Provide medication to treat illnesses that occur. Provide exercise for our dogs on a daily basis. Expose dogs to many people and environments to maximize socialization and minimize stress. Provide cats with both individual and group living experiences. Provide cats & kittens with exercise and interaction with other felines to support physical and mental health. To educate importance of spay & neuter via programs, educational materials, and clinics. To microchip all adopted dogs with chips that retain SCAS contact information to improve the return to owner capabilities.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Maintain financial resources through fund raisers and grant funds.
Assess all animals on admission and segregate depending on age, health and temperament
Maintain a volunteer dog walking group to provide daily long walks
Admit all cats into the intake area only
Provide food to all animals and medical interventions if and when needed. Work alongside hospice to provide program for elderly in assistance to animals needing homes due to relocation, or owner passing, or food & medical assistance.
Initiate and provide access to information regarding spay & neuter clinics and general pet care.
Promote donations for pet food bank for those needing assistance in the community in feeding animals.
Provide Dog Meet & Greet Area to allow potential adopters to introduce animals to each other and engage animals in stimulating mental and physical exercise, enabling healthier animals for potential adopters to unite.
We service the community, rescuing animals otherwise lost or neglected and/or reunite owners to their animals, providing care and empathy to each who enter.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are capable of housing 10 dogs and 35 cats. SCAS accepts all dogs & cats brought in or found. We are admitting strays as we receive requests and have expanded our foster home capacity to increase our ability to socialize kitties.
SCAS also obtains experienced and educated staff & volunteers which consistently engage in helpful programs and experiences to expand knowledge and participation. Fundraising goals and initiatives alongside grant funding is rigorously and annually sought. Volunteers for the Shelter are numerous and board members are actively engaged leaders with attainable strategic planning goals in place.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We are able to meet the community's need for dog admissions and are working to increase our capacity to intake cats through an increase in number of foster homes. We have also sought partnerships with neighboring shelters and/or pet adoption facilities to ensure the longevity of stay is shorter for animals, transporting when needed and allowing us to maximize the capability of helping numerous animals.
