Engeye strives to be a model for international partnership that enables individuals, families and communities to achieve their full potential through access to compassionate healthcare, quality education, and economic opportunity. We envision thriving communities and lives transformed through the power of their own enterprise.

Our goals are to advance prevention and primary health care services while improving self sustainability of the Engeye Health Clinic and to increase educational opportunities through primary school scholarships at local village schools.

We strive to prevent disease whenever possible, as we wholeheartedly believe that prevention is preferable to cure.

Engeye Health Clinic first opened its doors in 2006 and has been functioning as a full-time clinic ever since. We provide a variety of medical services in partnership with other establishments, including birth control, HIV testing and counseling, vaccinations, malaria testing and treatment and a variety of laboratory tests and treatments tailored to the community’s needs. Engeye Scholars, the education branch of Engeye, began in 2008, and has expanded to provide not only scholarships, but also general school support, clean water initiatives, and income opportunities for the community.


Engeye, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose mission revolves around ensuring health and education in rural Uganda. We operate primarily in Ddegeya Village, Uganda but our health clinic also engages in weekly outreaches to more rural and needy communities.

Engeye Health Clinic has established a partnership with the Ministry of Health and administers vaccinations. We understand the profound importance of collaborating and partnering with existing organizations and working with each other to raise community standards. Without the local partnership, we would be even more dependent on outside resources, taking us further from our goal of sustainability and self-sufficiency.

At Engeye we work with the people of Ddegeya and the surrounding communities, hand-in-hand as equals, to help develop the necessary resources to meet their health care needs. While we only charge 4,000 Ugandan schillings per visit on average (an equivalent of $2 USD), this supplies approximately half the cost to fund the clinic every month.

Engeye, Inc. is the U.S. side of the organization whose job is to support Engeye Health Clinic and the Scholars program financially through fundraising efforts.

Engeye started as a single room health clinic in 2006, with one nurse and Engeye clinic manager, John Kalule. The clinic was created because of the lack of affordable, quality or stable health care in the region surrounding Ddegeya Village.

Since 2006, the Engeye Health Clinic has continued expanding its services and improving the facilities and grounds. Now the clinic employs 12 full time clinicians, pharmacists, lab technicians, midwives and support staff. Engeye Health Clinic now has laboratory services, water catchment capabilities, connection to the electrical grid along with solar power, housing for staff and visitors, a scholars center and a new 24 hour maternity center.

The Engeye Scholars program is excited to see it's first group of students reach senior level. One student recently tested in the top 3% of the country. Plans for funding continued education beyond senior level are evolving. Plans to improve the existing scholars center are in the works.
