Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
1 | Continue to offer services as the ultimate way to inspire hope and to gain insights from the families to whom we
minister directly.
2 | Create content in order to minister with greater depth and breadth.
3 | Use content and expertise to position Inheritance of Hope (IoH) as the leader in legacy development for young
families facing the loss of a parent.
The Inheritance of Hope (IoH) story began with one young family facing a parent’s terminal illness – a mom and dad with young children looking for resources for their entire family as they all navigated the mom’s illness. Surprisingly, there were none. They decided to create resources for their family and share them with others. In 2007, Deric and Kristen Milligan launched IoH with the mission to inspire hope in young families facing the loss of a parent, and the brand has grown to serve families throughout the U.S.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
1 | Continue on-site (Legacy Retreats®, Hope Hub™), online (Hope@Home™ Weekend, Vision conference), and on-going (Hope@Home™ Groups, Legacy Videos™) offerings as the ultimate way to inspire hope and to gain insights from the families to whom we minister directly.
IoH continues to pursue new partnerships in its existing services to better serve families across the United States.
2 | Create content in order to minister with greater depth and breadth.
In 2020, we launched our Hope@Home™App and Hope@Home™ Groups to foster resources and relationships.
In 2020, we hosted our first Vision conference, bringing together more than 1,000 people served by IoH since our inception.
In 2020, we launched Hope@Home™ Weekends for families who were unable to travel.
In 2020, we made Legacy Videos™ available for anyone.
In 2021, we launched Hope Hub™, monthly in-person gatherings for families who understand the journey of a life-threatening illness.
A key goal of Inheritance of Hope's strategic initiatives is to develop and curate programs that position the
organization as a thought leader in legacy development. As such, we will:
1 | increase awareness of the incredible need within our society (1 in 20 children, aged 15 and under, will suffer the loss of a parent)
2 | develop products of value for families and communities we serve
3 | deliver unparalleled service in a way that is sustainable on a national scale
The expansion of resources and relationships will not only complement the families we host on-site, but also serve families and caregivers nationwide who are unable to attend our Legacy Retreat®.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Inheritance of Hope has grown our staff to 17 and our pool of volunteers to 223. We have solid partnerships that allow us to deliver life-changing services while stretching the donated dollar. IoH has Founders who have lived through the illness and death of a parent, as well as a several Board Members who has the perspective of facing both the illness and loss of a spouse.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
As of January 2022, Inheritance of Hope (IoH) has served families from 48 states. In 2021, IoH delivered 4 times more services (2,615) to young families facing the loss of a parent than any prior year.
