Trees For Houston

What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Education Programs
Education programs are crucial to increasing our urban canopy and improving our environment. The Trees For Schools program plants trees around the perimeter of approx. 25 schools each year. We also present an educational program on the value of trees and their role in the environment to 3rd and 4th grade students. Our adult education curriculum is our "Urban ForesTree Keeper" program, a tree-care and urban forestry course offered each fall to Houstonians.
Membership Program
The Membership Program provides tree planting and urban forestry information, project involvement and special events for individuals and families. Members are the foundation of our organization and recieve invitations to volunteer plantings, our monthly TreEmail and quarterly newsletters.
NeighborWoods and Parkway Projects
NeighborWoods and Parkway Projects plant trees in public rights-of-way, thereby fostering local pride and helping make our city a greener and cleaner place to live. NeighborWoods distributes free 5-gallon trees in under-planted neighborhoods. Parkway Projects involve tree planting along streets and in neighborhoods throughout the city, and on major thoroughfares.
Tribute Program
The Tribute Program offers the opportunity to commemorate special people or events by planting a tree in our Tribute Grove.
Conservation Easements
At the request of a local developer, we have become the stewards of a 3.06 acre conservation easement established to preserve a grove of 83, 100-year old native Texas hardwood trees. We look forward to future collaborative opportunities.
