Programs and results
What we aim to solve
The problem we aim to address is to improve the quality of life for low income special needs children and their families when their needs for essential adaptive equipment cannot be covered by other funding sources such as medicaid or insurance. During trying times, the needs of our special needs children do not stop and their pleas for help not only continue but become more desperate. Our special needs children and their families struggle to meet their needs and reach out to Be An Angel for assistance.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Individual Equipment
Be An Angel provides essential adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs, hearing aids, medical strollers, auto ramps and a variety of other specialized equipment to low income special needs children on an individual basis. We also provide hearing aids internationally to various communities in Latin America and the Dominican Republic.
Respite Care
Be An Angel has two respite care programs: summer respite at Alternatives for Angels, an at-home respite care program. Summer Respite is skilled care for medically fragile children provided during the summer, while most programs are unable to accept children who require constant care. Here, children can maintain physical and mental development with less parental stress. Alternatives for Angels is an at-home respite program that provides skilled care for qualified children with multiple disabilities. Parents are freed to leave home to run errands, set appointments, or simply to enjoy some much-needed leisure time or other activities.
Holiday Gifts
Each Christmas, Be An Angel provides gifts for thousands of low income special needs children whose families cannot afford them. Working through many school districts in various Texas regions, hundreds of teachers are given the opportunity to register their qualified students along with an individualized wish list of gifts. Presents are purchased, wrapped, and delivered through the combined efforts of the teachers themselves and scores of volunteers.
Institutional Assistance
Be An Angel helps schools and communities obtain equipment enabling special needs children to further their physical, mental, and emotional development such as barrier-free playgrounds designed to allow children with handicapping conditions to play alongside their able-bodied friends and family; sensory rooms filled with activities assisting mental and physical stimulatory needs; media literacy labs allowing all to collaborate in writing, production, and closed-captioning of film documentaries in a state-of-the-art television broadcast studio; and even hydrotherapy facilities.
SUCCESS Golf
An acronym for "Students Undertaking Challenging Courses Ensuring development of Sportsmanship and Skills," S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Golf is designed to aid development of fine motor skills and muscle control while focusing on correct energy levels for accurate putting. As students learn how golf works and strategies needed to become successful, cognitive abilities may also increase. Multiply impaired children can even improve in everyday activities such as holding a cup or feeding themselves, as a result of their experiences in S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Golf. Tournaments occur year-round on school campuses.
International Assistance
Be An Angel provides support to 2 locations in the Dominican Republic - an orphanage which is home to medically fragile, abandoned children and a school for deaf children.
Camp Be An Angel
Cam p Be An Angel is a unique, tri-annual weekend retreat for multiple disabled or profoundly deaf children and their families. In a wonderful barrier-free camp experience, siblings and parents are able to participate alongside their special angels during horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, zip-lining and many other activities.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to continue to increase our revenue sources with innovative fundraising strategies which would enable us to increase the services we provide to the low income special needs children and their families. Our families requests for adaptive equipment are year round and with the advances in the medical world, the demand for adaptive equipment has increased.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The strategies of Be An Angel include :
1. Create and maintain a 5 year strategic plan outlining specific strategies for our goals in the areas of marketing, budget and personnel.
2. Create and maintain marketing strategies that will retain current donors while encouraging new donors
3. Review and revise current plans to reach new clients and families of special needs children and to be able to assess their adaptive equipment needs.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Be An Angel has a committed Board of Directors who create, implement and support the strategic plan and goals of the charity.
100% of the Board of Directors contribute throughout the fiscal year and solicit others to contribute as well.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
To date, Be An Angel has been able to approve and fund approximately 25% more requests for adaptive equipment and select services.
Our fundraising efforts have included more events as we have learned through communication with stakeholders, donors prefer to attend an event for their donor experience.
We have included a Marketing Committee and plan to implement the objectives of the committee for the website and social media platforms.
