FAITH IN PRACTICE

Our program takes an integrated approach to healthcare, emphasizing continuity of care within the context of short-term medical mission. In 2017, more than 1,200 U.S. medical professionals and translators and over 900 Guatemalan volunteers worked together through our medical, surgical, dental, and health education teams to treat approximately 25,000 patients.

Faith In Practice’s network of care begins in the remote villages in clinics established to locate and treat patients with the greatest need and least access to care. Patients requiring surgery are guided through the entire process—assigned a date, assisted to obtain pre-operative testing, accompanied to the location where our surgical team will operate, provided with room and board as they heal in one of our patient guest houses, and accompanied safely home.

In addition to our village medical clinics and surgical program, Faith In Practice provides a number of other services. Other programs focus on cervical cancer screening and treatment, dental exams, cleanings, and extractions, wheelchair fittings, case management for cancer patients, and the training of midwives who assist in home births to prevent and treat birth emergencies that endanger the life of the mother and baby.
