What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Bunnies on the Bayou, Inc. plans to have year over year growth in funds distributed to our beneficiaries in the Houston LGBTQIA+ community. Due to the pandemic, we have been unable to provide crucial funding to our community the past two years. In 2022, Bunnies on the Bayou plans to surpass $200,000 in annual giving to beneficiaries with continued growth and strengthening of local and corporate strategic partnerships.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The development of strategic sponsorship financial goals and expansion of the sponsorship portfolio will provide the means to deliver more robust events, and in turn, draw in larger crowds. Bunnies on the Bayou intends to expand its annual event's footprint into a destination event by partnering with local city and LGBT resources in addition to national partnerships.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Bunnies on the Bayou prides itself on the caliber of professionalism in its elected Board of Directors and the relentless efforts of the Bunny Hosts' volunteerism. The Board is comprised of individuals who are excelling in their careers and are visible and vocal leaders within the Houston LGBTQIA+ community. The Bunny Hosts help execute the fundraising events by providing the volunteer management, organizing and labor needed to successfully operate. These dynamic and vital components of the organization are collectively equipped to provide the necessary reach within the community, with its sponsors and across the country.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In the last 5 years Bunnies on the Bayou, Inc. has seen a rapid 45% increase in annual charitable giving. Between 2018 and 2019 there was a 14% growth alone. This trajectory has been steady and the Board has a strategic vision to ensure its continued success.

- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
