Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Setting The Scene

"Setting The Scene" was a workshop presented by WIFT Houston, co-sponsored with the Houston Film Commission, as part of an educational offering by Houston Cinema Arts Society in November 2009.  It featured a panel consisting of a few of the creative personnel from the Texas-made movie, "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada," exploring the creative elements that must be combined to produce a masterwork.

Population(s) Served

This is a new offering by WIFT, created by its Educational Committee, that will include ten programs a year held monthly with the possible exceptions of June and December.  These programs will jointly and severally address the two basic divisions in our industry, film and television and be designed to meet the needs of our different types of member representatives, including those who work behind the camera, in front of the camera, above the line, and below the line, thus covering "the art, business, and craft of film and television," providing the knowledge that must be acquired to do the requisite tasks to succeed.

Population(s) Served

The WIFT Houston short script competition will result in the competition winner actually seeing the writer's efforts realized on screen.  Our quest is to  find knowledgeable, talented writers who possess great storytelling abilities. We will produce the best live-action narrative script that is judged to be the winning script. Once a Winner has been selected, WIFT Houston will then begin pre-rpoduction of the live action narrative short at locations in the Greater Houston area. The organization's intended goals include education and training of its members, producing a short movie digitally shot for submission and screening at film festivals, on broadcast media, and for promoting our chapter and its talented members.
