Notes from the nonprofit

The Child Guidance Guild of Bakersfield, The Guild House, founded in 1958 by community volunteers dedicated to raising funds in support of Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic, a non-profit mental health agency for children and families. We have more than two hundred active and sustaining members. Guild House began 1966 and has had uninterrupted service to date. The Guild House volunteers offer formal dining lunches in our elegant craftsman house. The Guild House was placed on the Register of Historic Places by the Bakersfield Historic Preservation Commission in 1992. Proceeds from the Guild House benefit the Child Guidance Clinic, which has served our community since 1946. The Clinic offers mental health counseling and auxiliary services, to help children and families, from all demographic backgrounds, who experience difficulties a result of a variety of emotional, behavioral, or family difficulties. To date the Guild has donated $2.5 million to the Clinic.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to donate $40,000 annually to the mental health services of Kern County. Currently we offer our support to The Henrietta Weill Memorial Child Guidance Clinic (the Clinic). The Clinic provides mental health and substance abuse services and the resources necessary to promote wellness and recovery children, adults and families in our county. Since opening as a restaurant, we have donated $2.3 million to the mental health needs of children, adults and families.

In order to meet the goal and demands of the Child Guildance Guild, Guild House, volunteerism is critical to the success our nonprofit organization. We run a successful non-profit restaurant with all profit's designated to our mental health goal. The Child Guidance Guild runs the Guild House, a nonprofit, all-volunteer operated restaurant, serving a full meal lunch Tuesday through Thursday, September through June of each year. The Guild House offers many 'House' evening events such as Gourmet Dinners, wine tasting events, seasonal dinners and entertainment, and special High Teas.

It is our goal to maintain the appropriate number of volunteers to staff the Guild House Restaurant. We offer many opportunities for training and on-going support for each volunteer. We have regular meetings throughout the year to keep our volunteers informed of the business of the House. The Child Guidance Guild Board arranges for many social events to build volunteer enthusiasm, offer a fun working environment and develop relationships.
