What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Nearly 50 million Americans experience a mental illness. The percentage of adults with a mental illness who reported unmet needs for treatment has increased. There is a growing percentage of youth in the U.S. living with major depression. Both adults and youth continue to lack adequate insurance to cover mental health services. Therefore, many people are going untreated.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

NAMI Kern's goals are to support and educate those living with mental illness and their families. We awant to go into the community and use our presentation programs to help erase the stigma associated with mental illness. We advocate for those families who are dealing with mental health issues at every level; in our local community, state and nationally.

Lastly, another major goal for our organization is to increase the number of members and volunteers.

Our support programs continue to provide a safe place for families to come and learn to cope with the difficulties that living with mental health issues can place within their homes
Our "evidenced based" education program for family members gives them the tools them need, not only to deal with a crisis situation, but also give them insights into the disease, communication skills, self care and much more. Our peer education program gives those living with mental illnesses the skills they can use to stay in recovery.
Our "In Our Own Voice" presentations take place a various location in the community so trained presenters can "tell their story".
We provide information about these programs through our website and also by providing those in the mental health community with brochures and flyers.
Our community assistance program will address the food insecurities of low-income and at-risk families,

NAMI Kern will focus on increasing memberships by going into the business community and asking for their support.

We currently have a small group of volunteers who are facilitators, mentors and teachers for our programs. We are always looking for NAMI members who are interested in becoming volunteers and giving back to the community.

For our membership drives we will need increase the number of volunteers to serve on our membership committee.

During the past year, we started a food panty

We have trained several new peer leaders who will offer services in the outlying area

We increased our presence on social media.
