Mission

The Kern Environmental Education Program (KEEP) offers Residential Outdoor Science Education for 5th and 6th graders at two separate and beautiful coastal campuses: KEEP Ocean in Montaña de Oro State Park and KEEP By The Sea in Arroyo Grande. Here, students use the natural environment as a living laboratory. Children learn about ecological concepts while they explore and study a variety of ecosystems through first-hand experiences. Students, teachers and counselors share the enriching experience of living in cabins together, eating community meals, learning on the trails, playing science games by starlight, singing songs around a campfire and falling asleep to the sound of the ocean.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The goal is to expose students to a hands-on experience where they can learn about the natural world around them. Approximately only 30% of students in Kern County see the ocean, and this residential science camp exposes students to the Pacific Ocean.

By providing structured science education using credentialed teachers and naturalists.

Camp KEEP has 50 years of providing high-quality science education to Kern County students.

Have served thousands of students over the years. Will continue to offer science education based on Next Generation Science standards.
