Adoption Day Events

Coordinates monthly adoption events at PetSmart, PETCO, Cutter’s Mill, Pet Valu, and the EASEL trailer

Dogs, Cats are taken to these various local pet focused business in a effort to find foerver homes.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Volunteers head out and trap colonies of cats in the Mercer County area homes and local businesses. As colonies are found and reported, save-a-heart traps are used to capture ferals, lost and dumped pets, and kittens to be vetted, spayed and/or nuetered to control the pet populations. Friendly cats/ kittens are socialized and retained in our trailer and partner shelters until they can be found forever homes.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Training can make a critical difference in a animal's life, particularly an animal who is homeless and exhibits behavior that would discourage adoption. EASEL makes an effort to evaluate our animals and provide them with the training they need
For cats, we socialize them when needed. For older cats, we work on shyness as well as things like litter training or destructive scratching. EASEL draws on the years of experience among our cat volunteers to deal with most issues.
For dogs, our volunteers work with professional trainers to do obedience training and work on issues like confidence or lack of focus. In more serious cases, EASEL works on helping abused dogs overcome fear issues. EASEL performs temperament tests and employs techniques to overcome issues that we discover. We perform dog introductions when needed, and we can provide in-home assessments to help a newly adopted dog adjust to their new environment. If on-going training is needed, we can recommend a trainer who can help.

Population(s) Served
Adults

As of July 2013, EASEL has operated a functional trailer converted to a small "animal shelter" used an adoption location, local shelter overflow, quaratine and kitten seasonal segegration.

At just under a year and half, the trailer has served as a critical part of EASEL and the partner Shelters capabilities.

Previously numerous "fosters" would be called upon to take kittens, and travel to various adoption events in an attempt to find homes for cats & kittens. With the established trailer complete with AC/heat & electric, numerous cages and 3 rooms, we are able to facilitate adoptions and animal care centrally with common care techniques and supplies.

Population(s) Served
Adults

EASEL is holding/offered a low cost Micro chip event to existing owners who wished to have their animals MicroChipped to aid with the welfare of any animals who may get loose, lost and are subsequently may be 'trapped" or rescued and brought to Animal Shelters. The Micro Chip will have owner information stored in a database.
