WOUNDED HEROES FUND

Local Heroes. Local Help.

aka WHF   |   Bakersfield, CA   |  www.thewoundedheroesfund.org

Mission

The Wounded Heroes Fund is a service organization for those Veterans and their families affected by the war on terror with a focus on facilitating a healthy transition to civilian life through support and appreciation.

Notes from the nonprofit

The recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone.

It can be difficult for a veteran to feel comfortable back in society. As life goes on back in the states, it can seem like the country is unaware that there is a war raging on. Oftentimes, simply recognizing the sacrifices and the hardships that they have experienced can mean all the difference in the life of a veteran. Appreciation might not be as tangible as monetary assistance, but its impact is often more indelible.

Appreciation Programs

Annual “Salute To Our Local Heroes": WHF's flagship event, serves as a venue for the community to come together and personally thank our local heroes. Hosted annually in Bakersfield with a fantastic meal, entertainment, keynote speakers, and family fun.

Veteran outreach programs and appreciation: WHF is devoted to provide support, networking opportunities, access to services, education, and peer-support to new and existing members of the WHF family, in kern county. The goal of these programs to is to offer support to veterans and their families. With these programs it will provide an outlet to strengthen family bonds and peer to peer bonds.

Fallen Hero memorial funds: WHF is working closely with the families of some of our local heroes who paid the ultimate price. These funds will be established for perpetuity in the spirit of the fallen heroes themselves, covering costs for endeavors that were close to their hearts, such as law enforcement academies or entrance fees for summer camps for deserving Kern County youths.

Board Approved Financial Grants

All Veterans applying for financial assistance will meet with WHF's Grant Coordinator and a financial adviser. Once a plan has been set in place by the Grant coordinator and the financial adviser the Board will review, edit, approve or deny the request. WHF understands that every request is different from the next, so the Board of Directors reviews each request on a case by case basis.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The goals of Wounded Heroes Fund are to bring focus to the families that are connected to current conflict disabled service members. It is our goal to build lasting relationships with these families.
Wounded Heroes fund wants to bring current conflict Veterans together in Kern County and get them connected. Another goal that Wounded Heroes Fund has, is to teach a Veteran to become their own advocate for success.
Wounded Heroes Fund wants to make sure all Veterans in Kern County know that their community appreciates them and wants to support them during their time of need.

This will be accomplished through equine therapy, hosting date nights, and offering couple retreats.By helping families grow and become stronger family units through our programs to prevent families breaking up.
WHF will offer events and gatherings to give Veterans an opportunity to get involved. The programs will also consist of frequent activities, annual team building events, and multi-discipline experiences.
WHF wants to teach Veterans to be proactive and be their own advocate for their personal success. This can be taught by using mentoring programs such as, peer to peer, professional, and educational resources.

The capabilities Wounded Heroes Fund has, is a passionate Executive Director who volunteers her time everyday to learn and understand what Veterans need in Kern County. The WHF also has thirteen active board of directors, and of those thirteen five of them are disabled current conflict veterans. The organization has very strong ties and relationships with other Veteran service organizations in Kern County. With the close bonds WHF has with the community we will always have a connection to resources and educational information.

The progress we have made so far is our ability to give timely grant assistance, network with community leaders, and having support from local Veteran organizations, and flexibility in responding to Veteran's needs.
What WHF hasn't accomplished yet is continuing memorializing all gold star families that lost a loved one in the current conflict war.
