Mission

SaveABunny is an award-winning, 501(c)(3), nonprofit rabbit rescue organization based in Northern California. Since 1999 we have been involved in the rescues of 5,000 rabbits. Our mission is healing and transforming the lives of rescued rabbits and their human guardians by connecting through trust and unconditional love. Every rabbit rescued is promised a happy, safe life – even if they aren't adopted and become sanctuary residents. This life long commitment is an essential and very unique aspect of our organization. While we rescue a majority of healthy, adoptable rabbits we specialize in healing abuse, trauma, neglect and life-threatening medical or behavioral issues. We witness heartbreaking situations that no animal should have to endure. And we witness many incredible miracles.

Rabbit Rescue & Sanctuary

SaveABunny is an award-winning, 501(c)(3) nonprofit rabbit rescue organization based in Northern California. We work with over 35 shelters to make sure abandoned, abused and neglected rabbits get the second chance
they deserve.

In addition to helping adoptable rabbits find their forever homes, we specialize in healing physically wounded and emotionally traumatized rabbits by integrating extraordinary Western veterinary care
with Eastern healing arts.

Population(s) Served
Adults
Families

SaveABunny volunteers run tables and booths at various events around the Bay Area educating people about domesticated rabbits generally and the wonderful experience of having rabbits as indoor companion animals specifically.

SaveABunny's message is that domesticated, companion rabbits are worthy of a safe, loving home regardless of breed purity, pedigree, or temperament. SaveABunny is against the use of rabbits for meat or fur and undertakes efforts to educate the public about the cruelty and inappropriateness of using rabbits for either.

We encourage people to adopt spayed or neutered rabbits from shelters and rescue groups, such as SaveABunny, rather than purchasing an animal from a breeder or pet store.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

SaveABunny's primary goal is to save rabbits from slaughter, euthanasia, abuse, neglect, and abandonment, provide them with any needed medical treatment, and find them homes where they can live healthy, happy lives. Additionally, SaveABunny seeks to educate the public about the proper care of domestic rabbits namely, keeping them indoors as companion animals.

To fulfill our goal, SaveABunny establishes relationships with over 30 local area shelters so that we can take in high-risk rabbits and rabbits needing special care (physical or emotional). SaveABunny also participates in large-scale rescue efforts, including rescues from hoarding situations and "meat" rabbit farms.

SaveABunny shelters and nurses rabbits, holds outreach and adoption events, and promotes the adoption of rabbits in person and online.

SaveABunny is a volunteer-based organization with strong support from dedicated volunteers with myriad skills.

SaveABunny was founded in 1999 and since that time we have been involved with the life-saving rescues of close to 5,000 rabbits.
