Mission

"Pilot Musicians sharing their passion while encouraging and educating youth (& adults) in the science and art of aeronautics and music." FMA, founded in 2009, is an organization for pilots who are musicians, spanning the globe, proficiency levels and genres. The skills required to play an instrument and fly an aircraft have marked similarities, from precision and multitasking to listening and fine motor skills. By educating others about these common attributes we hope to further interest in both. The goal is to share our passions in order to inspire, educate, encourage, and assist others by creating enthusiasm and promoting personal growth in aviation and music.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Flying Musicians Association members are working towards filling the shortage of pilots around the world. We have determined that student musicians are the perfect candidates because of the skills they learned in music: hand eye coordination, multi tasking, precision, ability to break down a complex task in order to learn it, and the practice skills necessary to perform with perfection.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We are growing the pilot population through our scholarship program - FMA Solo. By performing outreach, we identify youth who are passionate then through our network, we encourage, educate, and assist them to achieve their goals.

Perform outreach to identify and inspire others by attending and participating at aviation and music events. Hold local Hangar JAMs to introduce aviators to musicians with an interest.

With over 700 members we have the network. Now we need your help with the funding.

We have just completed a decade (2009-2019) and five years administering the FMA Solo program that has seen a growth of nearly 200 student members, awarded eleven learn to fly scholarships, and assisted many with obtaining the private pilot certificate.

We will continue to grow and when funding catches up, we intend to create a scholarship to further ones studies in aviation and music.
