What we aim to solve
Thousands of strays dogs roam Bosnia's streets -- an unintended consequence of a war-torn country. As Bosnian families were trying to survive the Sarajevo siege, snipers, & genocide more than 20 years ago, their pets were unfortunately left to survive on their own -- taking residence on the streets.
Generations of those displaced war pets have either been thrown back out on the street again, or have raised litters of new generations on the same streets in which they were born.
Without official humane or cruelty prevention organizations to protect them, Bosnia's strays are kicked, beaten, ran over by cars, & left for dead. They wander the streets searching for food, shelter, & love. The ones who have found homes aren't loved, but are instead tied to short chains next to dog houses they can barely fit in. Culturally, dogs are no longer looked at as pets, but as nuisances to be dealt with.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Animal Rescue
Our Animal Rescue program is considered a key program for the organization, as our ultimate purpose is to connect homeless dogs with loving families. Since the organization’s inception in 2015, we’ve rehomed more than 330 homeless dogs throughout the globe. Specific transportation expenses in this program relate ground transport and flight/cargo transport, including vehicle rental, crates, and veterinary paperwork.
Animal Welfare
The primary welfare activities include providing food for malnourished dogs, veterinarian fees for necessary medical attention, shelter construction, and pension (3rd party dog shelters) fees. Since the organization’s inception, we’ve funded approximately 5,060 pounds of dog food, and 27 dogs’ medical treatments and surgeries. The "Fairy Dog Parent" sponsorship program falls into Animal Welfare, and allows donors to sponsor the monthly food and shelter expenses for dogs on a recurring basis until the dog is matched and rehomed with a loving family.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
First, we are raising awareness for the stray dog situation in Bosnia through successful rescue and rehabilitation efforts. This starts with supporting local rescue partners in their efforts to take these dogs off the streets and them proper vaccines and vet treatment. Once healthy enough to be in a shelter, we work with other nonprofits and rescue groups across Europe and the USA to find them loving homes. Our aim is to rescue and rehome as many of Bosnia's forgotten pets as possible, and create the start of a cultural shift.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategies first start with ensuring our rescue partners have the resources needed to care for these pets. To find them the perfect home, we partner with various animal welfare organizations and shelters in Europe in the USA to find families looking to add a new member to their family. We do not want to add to the problem of homeless pets by placing them in shelters elsewhere, but to find families before their arrival so they go to a home right away.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
For animal rescue efforts, we have several rescue partners in Bosnia working directly with these animals and keeping them in their own private shelters. Additionally, have a large network of supporters and volunteers in the USA who keep us connected to various rescue organizations and shelters. For animal welfare efforts, we utilize various social media platforms to reach new donors to aid in various veterinary expenses, food requirements, and shelter repairs.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Since the first Bosnian rescue, Tanzie, was brought to the USA in 2015, our organization has supported the rescuing and rehoming of 490 of Bosnia's forgotten pets. We've funded emergency, surgical, and non-surgical vet care. We've also supplied more than 200 dogs in Bosnia's private shelters with $7K in dog food. Our vision forward is to continue to gain financial support for animal welfare and rescue initiatives, focusing on improved local shelter facilities, and increased rehoming.
