What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Up With Books aims to address the problem of illiteracy in communities, particularly among low income families. Often, these families cannot afford to have books of any kind in their homes. This results many times in the children falling behind their peers and unable to catch up.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Every Summer Has a Story

Up With Books provides new books to children living in low-income households in Massachusetts and several additional states. Our largest program, the Every Summer Has a Story reading program, provides each child with a backpack filled with books to keep them reading through the summer months. This is a time when many children will lose valuable reading skills learned during the school year due to lack of reading material in their homes.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Up With Books' goals are to provide access to books for children in need to promote reading and inspire their reading ability. We aim to educate the parents in the importance of reading and how learning to read, and continue to read, can impact their lives.

We are working with food pantries and homeless shelters to reach those most in need.

Up With Books, Inc. continues fundraising through numerous avenues and in contacts with book publishers, warehouses, and clearing houses to provide books for our programs.

We have distributed over 10,000 books to children and families. We continue to strive to reach as many families as possible.
