The Polkadot Library was established in 2016 to encourage a reading culture, provide sustainable education for underprivileged children in Kabarnet and to promote gender equality in education, located in Baringo County, Kenya.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Basic Computer Education

Up to 28 students per term learn about basic hardware and software, including applications such as Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. They also learn about navigation the internet and how to use email. A certificate is presented upon completion of the course and passing grade on the exam.

Population(s) Served

Primary school classes schedule education sessions at Polkadot once per week and art taught art, science, english and reading comprehension during the course of the year.

Teachers and parents have reported increased overall test scores and improved english language and creative thought as a result of attending classes at Polkadot Library.

Fully sustainable eco-garden with a wide array of vegetables and herbs cultivated year round. Classes available to the entire community on incubator gardening, companion planting, crop rotation and more.

Children from neighboring schools also participate in the cultivation and harvesting & distribution processes.

Polkadot Library offers after-school programs including:
*Book Club
*Garden Club
*Music Club

These clubs are created by the students and directly monitored by Polkadot Library with a teacher moderator.

Bingo game started in January 2020 to encourage regular reading. Bingo cards are given to each student and they must complete the entire game piece to win a prize. Daily challenges include reading for 20 minutes, reading to a friend, writing a summary of the story or chapter and defining unknown vocabulary words.
