Programs and results
What we aim to solve
We aim to address the issue of distressed cemeteries. We define distressed cemeteries as including neglected, abandoned, and deteriorating burial grounds. We define neglected cemeteries as those that are currently owned but are not kept in optimal conditions due to circumstances such as low funds, lack of support staff, and other constraints. Abandoned cemeteries are those that have no current owner and have been nearly lost.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Preserving Perpetual Care Cemeteries
Continuing the commitment that prior organizations and grounds keepers had established regarding the care and maintenance of cemeteries
Marker Repair and Restoration
Cleaning and resetting of damaged markers. We strive to return the marker to near original condition.
A living memorial
Repository of information pertaining to those buried at the cemeteries such as family connections, events, and other facts. The purpose of this program is to honor the lives of these individuals by sharing their stories for future generations to learn and remember.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Historic Clarksburg WV Cemetery Preservation Alliance aims to provide the perpetual care that was once guaranteed by the founding organizations of the numerous cemeteries that have fallen into a neglected and damaged state. Over the years due to circumstances such as dwindling membership, lack of funds, and poor record keeping. Perpetual Care Cemeteries have at times fallen into disrepair as the founding organizations of these cemeteries have closed down or been unable to provide the necessary care.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our primary strategy for accomplishing the aforementioned goal is community outreach and partnership. We seek the assistance of numerous churches, fraternal organizations, businesses, as well as the Department of Corrections. We are always hosting and sponsoring clean up events at cemeteries as well as the adjoining neighborhoods.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our capabilities are growing as we are constantly soliciting via social media, email, and word of mouth to achieve our partnership goals. We have a strong reputation for being dedicated and resilient in providing our services to the community.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
HCWVCPA began as a group of dedicated volunteers caring for the grounds of the Former Clarksburg IOOF Cemetery on South Chestnut St. In 2016 we organized our group as a nonprofit in order to better accomplish our efforts. Over the past year HCWVCPA worked towards taking ownership of the Former Clarksburg IOOF cemetery so that we could better care for and restore the cemetery and we achieved this goal in December 2017.
We offer our services to other cemeteries as well and currently provide care for the Daniel Davisson DAR Cemetery located on West Main St in Downtown Clarksburg WV and currently are in talks to acquire another cemetery. We also provide consulting services to those seeking to preserve neglected and potentially abandoned cemeteries in their area.
