What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Scholarship Program

Education in Guatemala is not free. Children and families are expected to provide textbooks, school supplies, uniforms, and more. The families in our scholarship program typically work in and around the garbage dump, earning less than $5 a day. With this income, there is not enough to cover all the expenses associated with attending school. Our scholarship covers all expenses related to education, including tuition, uniforms, supplies, backpacks, textbooks, transportation, and more. We have 221 children ages 6-19 enrolled in our program for the 2019 school year.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth

All our scholarship recipients have a better chance to succeed in their education if they are given extra tutoring support and a safe place to be after school. For these reasons, we operate an after school program for all the children receiving scholarships. Children attend and can receive help with homework and extra lessons in topics such as English, computer skills, and ethics. All children also receive a nutritious meal during program time.
