MADISON BIKES INC
For a city where anyone can bike anywhere comfortably and conveniently, year round
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Winter Biking Promotion and Advocacy
Our organization's vision is to make cycling a viable means of transportation year-round. In a place like Madison, this includes several months of cold weather. Madison Bikes organizes events such as the Winter Bike Fashion Show and Madison Winter Bike Week to normalize winter biking and to educate and share knowledge with the public about riding in the cold season. Additionally, we work with the city to improve snow clearing and maintenance of streets and the bike network during winter.
A Low-Stress Bike Network for Madison
Riding a bike should be a comfortable and convenient choice for everyone, no matter where you want to go in Madison and the surrounding community. This means that we need a connected network of infrastructure that can be used by people of all ages and abilities. A first step that our organization is working on is to map out the existing low-stress network in Madison, and then to identify where gaps exist, and how to prioritize closing those gaps.
Activating the Public for Civic Engagement
Madison Bikes wants to inform and activate the public to make their voice heard in matters that concern transportation in our city. We publish a weekly calendar update that collates city meetings, neighborhood open houses, and other bike-related events. Additionally, we write background pieces on important infrastructure and policy matters and encourage our constituents to contact their elected city officials and city agencies and to attend public meetings.
