The mission of The Patch Works Art & History Center is to preserve, sustain, and maintain the historical identity, relevance, and integrity of Atlanta’s Cabbagetown — a resurging, 19th-century mil-ltown community impacted by major urban development — through exhibits of history and local art, and community-based public programs and events.

A monthly music series — free to the public — that highlights the aesthetics of music played without amplification and electronics. The Patch Works typically brings in at least two acts (one of which is usually from Cabbagetown). After the scheduled performances, any musican attending is invited to a post-performance, impromptu hootenanny...

  • Who are the people you serve with your mission?

    The Patch Works serves: • Residents of Cabbagetown (past and present). This includes a variety of age groups, races, and people from a wide range of economic backgrounds. Past residents ("Originals") lived in the community when it was still a mill town, which began to transition from a working-class neighborhood to today's affluent neighborhood after the mill closed in 1981. By the early 2000's, most Originals had been displaced due to increasing property taxes and/or not feeling welcome in their own home. The Patch Works is a bridge between past and present, bringing together Originals and current residents. • Anyone interested in Atlanta's post-Civil War history. Cabbagetown is an open-air museum, offering insight into the city's long journey from ashes to the South's metropolis.
