Adopt a Turtle

Help endangered Blanding’s turtles thrive in Kane County through the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation’s Adopt a Turtle program. By adopting a turtle, you’ll aid the Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s Blanding’s turtle conservation efforts and research, above and beyond their current capacity. Donations go toward hiring a summer wildlife intern to help learn more about Blanding's turtle populations in Kane County, as well as to help provide field supplies and technology to further aid in the study of this important species. (Note: These are ceremonial adoptions. No turtles will be removed Forest Preserve District property.)

Population(s) Served

Each spring, the Kane Forest Preserve Foundation hosts a Native Plant Sale. Customers win, as they receive gorgeous, locally grown plants from seed that is native to the area. Native wildlife wins because they need local plants to grow and thrive. Proceeds from the Native Plant Sale support various projects. The 2020 sale benefitted a micro-prairie planting within Fabyan Forest Preserve. The 2021 sale benefitted fish stocking at various Forest Preserve District of Kane County lakes and ponds. 2022 sale proceeds will go toward the construction of osprey nesting towers at Dick Young Forest Preserve and at the CPO Wetlands forest preserve.
