What we aim to solve
Thousands of student athletes across the US are faced with the challenges of attending underfunded public schools that are not financially able to fully support their academic, athletic, social and nutritional needs. Though many students are able to maintain the 2.0 GPA minimum to participate in sports programs, there is limited support for student athletes to aptly study and prepare for the ACT & SAT exams, both essential factors for allowing a student athlete to pursue collegiate sports and future opportunities. There are statistics to support the direct connection between socio-economic factors, standardized testing success and financial inability to pursue college without financial aid and/or athletic scholarships. There are also statistics to support the lack of nutritional meals and food deserts for many underserved communities, many of which are home to student athletes we are committed to serving.

NBWA Cares Community Fund
NBWA members raise charitable contributions that benefit the NBWA CARES Community Fund. These funds support
organizations that align with our mission to support youth, families, communities and women. Your donations will help NBWA reach the critical goal of achieving economic stability for the economically disadvantaged. Recent supported charities include: Eden House, Each One Save One, CAST (Coalition Against Slavery & Human Trafficking), Jenesee Center Inc., Los Angeles Valley College Foundation, No Kid Hungry and March of Dimes.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of Books & Ball is to financially assist underserved Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball Programs in the areas of athletics, academia and social wellness. The full-service Books & Ball program includes team gear sponsorship, one full year of ACT/SAT prep courses, mentorship, private tutoring and pre-game team bonding with nutritional meals. Our program vision is to be a leading Boys & Girls Basketball program enrichment resource for underserved public schools across the nation.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?

• Coach Volunteer efforts through Mentorship, Workshops and Special Guest Speakers
• Assist Corporate and Brand Sponsorships (cash and in-kind product sponsors)

What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The NBWA was established as a public 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable corporation in New York on July 19, 2016, as the official charitable membership organization of the wives, life partners and significant others of NBA, NBA G-League and Harlem Globetrotter players. We are galvanizing women of influence to nurture our youth, build strong communities and work together to achieve economic stability for families and women around the world. Since it’s launch in 2017, the NBWA Cares Community Fund has awarded over $150,000 to deserving non-profits that align with our Mission. Most recently, NBWA has launched it’s “Books & Ball” program, with a mission to financially assist underserved Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball Programs in the areas of athletics, academia and social wellness. The NBWA is the leading and most globally respected women’s network committed to educating youth, stabilizing families, strengthening communities and empowering women.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Books & Ball program officially launched during the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend in Chicago, Illinois. The first school to participate in our programing is Chicago Public Schools, Dunbar Vocational Career Academy. The Boys & Girls Varsity Basketball Programs were awarded with a $20,000 donation to support the schools basketball shooting machine, ACT and SAT prep courses for a full year and funds to support nutritional pre-game meals.
To support COVID-19 relief with learning resources for undeserved communities that may not have access to phones, laptops and data plans, NBWA has partnered with Morgan Stanley and First Book. With our first activation, we supplied 15,000 book kits and e-book credits to 5,000 children nationally, providing each child with three joy of reading titles and e-book credits.
NBWA plans to continue partnering with national non-profits and corporations to support academic equity and opportunity to youth across America.
