Llacuna Salvavision

Llaucna's Salvavision Initiative helps provide support for refugees in Central and North America. Llacuna Salvavision provides direct relief to refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants on the U.S. border with Mexico.

Dora Rodriguez, once a refugee herself, fleeing death squads in El Salvador only to be rescued in the Sonoran Desert as one of the only survivors from her group, is now helping others stay alive. Dora and her initiatiive Salvavision work tirelessly 365 days a year distributing aid, while also spreading awareness about the current migration crisis.

In November of 2019, Dora was invited to speak with members of United States Congress in Washington by Amnesty International to help explain the current crisis to Congress and provide a unique perspective into what is happening to people at the border.

In 2018, 92k people sought border asylum.

In 2017, that number was only 55,584

For decades, this situation has worsened.

Volunteer members of the Llacuna Envoy, a global team of ambassadors working to fix crucial issues, created a poster campaign to promote peace and ending war in their own communities. In April 2021, the campaign was launched in Lahore, Pakistan, featuring posters on the campus of The University of Management and Technology (UMT), one of Pakistan's top private research universities. The Urdu language version was created by researcher Sajid Nadeem, who translated the English version into his native language. Since then, it has become a global campaign and has been redesigned in many languages and posted in many regions.

The campaign helps promote peace across international boundaries and provides engaging, safe, fun community activities which empower people to connect and share their values together.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Llacunas goal is to build and engage the community by teaching and popularizing ideas and information as they relate to our organizations mission. Our team helps build projects that better the environment and humanity. We invest in building free technology to help further sustainability initiatives, especially those related to health, journalism and the environment, in our community and across the globe. Llacuna is governed by a Board of Directors who contribute to the organization their specialized knowledge within the fields of design, creativity, development, community building, activism, arts & culture, sustainable development and social planning.

To further understand Llacunas mission, it is important to loosely define the terms community initiatives and sustainable development.

Sustainable development is a process for meeting healthy human development goals while sustaining the ability of natural systems to continue to provide the natural resources and ecosystem services upon which the economy and society depend. While the modern concept of sustainable development is derived most strongly from the 1987 Brundtland Report, it is rooted in earlier ideas about sustainable forest management and twentieth century environmental concerns. As the concept developed, it has shifted to focus more on economic development, social development and environmental protection.

Sustainable development is the organizing principle for sustaining finite resources necessary to provide for the needs of future generations of life on the planet. It is a process that envisions a desirable future state for human societies in which living conditions and resource-use continue to meet human needs without undermining the integrity, stability and beauty of natural biotic systems.

Community initiatives is defined as an idea, goal or objective made public by three or more members of the community that is generally agreed upon by the community to provide a positive outcome for someone or some thing.

Llacuna organizes volunteer communities to promote sustainable development. Through a shared-services model, Llacuna helps facilitate change by providing organization and support.
