Humanitarian Services

The Haitian Bridge Alliance provides humanitarian aid and emergency response to people seeking asylum at the US-Mexico border, including (but not limited to) emergency ambulances, food, shelter, transportation, interpretation, orientation, and dignity kits with an emphasis on the Afro-descendant migrant community, women and girls, survivors of torture and the LGBTQIA+ community.

Population(s) Served

Our culturally competent, Kreyol and French speaking attorneys represent asylum seekers, support Temporary Protection Status (TPS) applications, removal defense and often hold Know-Your-Rights trainings. The department also runs a multi-lingual, national hotline for Black asylum seekers for HBA to identify emergency cases, collect information, and intake legal cases. We also provide referrals to legal providers in Southern California for assistance with removal defense, asylum claims, and other legal matters when necessary and often visit detention centers to support people separated from their loved ones.

Population(s) Served

The Haitian Bridge Alliance is a leader in the immigrant justice and the racial justice movement and advocates for treating Afro-descendent migrants, immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers with dignity, compassion, and respect.

Population(s) Served

The Haitian Bridge Alliance leverages international law to draw attention to the disparate treatment of Black people in mobility and has testified in front of the United Nations and the Organization of American States.

HBA also uses strategic impact litigation to push back on assaults on Black migrants, most notably HBA v. Biden on the unlawful and immoral treatment of Haitians who were trapped under the Del Rio bridge in Texas in 2021 as border patrol agents on horseback chased and intimidated them.

Population(s) Served

Our team regularly puts out reports on the conditions at the US-Mexico border, the impact of anti-Blackness on the migration journey, and leads delegations of human rights organizations, artists, elected officials, and others to raise awareness on the challenges across the US-Mexico border, the border between Mexico and Guatemala, and the Darien Gap in Panama (important migration routes).

Population(s) Served

The Cameroon Advocacy Network is a coalition of organizations and activists across the United States and Cameroon advocating for the freedom and dignity of Cameroonians. We stand in solidarity with all Black immigrants fighting for liberation.

Population(s) Served

The Black Immigrants Bail Fund is a joint project between the Haitian Bridge Alliance and the African Bureau of Immigrant and Social Affairs. The fund is a national organization that provides free assistance and relief to Black immigrants in pursuit of Liberation and Justice.
