Valkyrie Robotics
Strengthening students with the skills and experiences necessary for the industries of tomorrow.
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Valkyrie Robotics is based in the heart of Silicon Valley – our headquarters is within located within three miles of of Apple Inc.’s, and the majority of our volunteers and corporate officers work in the fields of STEM. Yet the demand for STEM programs still far outpaces the supply -- most local robotics teams are based out of a single school, where hundreds of students might compete for only 30 slots in team itself, while many schools -- and thus the students based there -- have no such team at all. Valkyrie accepts students from any school, race, gender, or financial background, and seeks to serve those students no other organization serves. Through our competitive and educational programs, we give students hands-on experience in robotics, manufacturing, programming, mechanical design, engineering organization, and beyond; and beyond the walls of our shop, we hold a wide variety of workshops, demonstrations, and educational events at faires, parks, museums, and events in the Bay.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Valkyrie Robotics FRC#299
Sixty students compete in the FIRST Robotics Competition as part of team #299, Valkyrie Robotics!
Project Backpack
Project Backpack allows Bay Area donors to directly support Puerto Rican schools and the students within by coordinating the donation of essential tools and supplies for use in the educational process. Over three years of operation, Project Backpack has provided support for almost a dozen schools, including such supplies as writing implements, backpacks, uniforms, sports equipment, and more.
Valkyrie Advance
Valkyrie Advance is an accessible, low-cost engineering bootcamp targeted at students in the 6th through 8th grades. Over the course of five days, students learn to design, build, and code robots of their own in a learning environment that is at once hands-on, collaborative, and competitive.
Valkyrie Robotics VRC#22999
One branch of the primary FRC team, targeted at Middle School students.
Valkyrie Robotics FTC#15332
One branch of the primary FRC team, targeted at Middle School students.
Valkyrie Mini Maker Faire Programme
We help to promote awareness and excitement for STEM fields by regularly participating in the Santa Cruz Mini Maker Faire.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Valkyrie Robotics seeks to provide equal-opportunity access to quality extracurricular education in STEM, leveling the floor for all students, regardless of race, gender, or economic background. By exposing students to industry-level challenges and mentors to match, we help students develop key skills for the modern workplace in fields ranging from software engineering to business leadership, as well as vital life skills including self-confidence, teamwork, leadership, and communication.
To further this mission, we have set for ourselves the following five core goals:
I. Teach students real-world skills that will be relevant in college, industry, and beyond.
II. Increase the number of students attending college and university, especially in STEM fields.
III. Close the opportunity gap between women and men in science, technology, and engineering.
IV. Give economically disadvantaged students access to high-quality extracurricular programs.
V. Engage communities to spread awareness and support for socioeconomic educational disparities.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Valkyrie Robotics provides our communities with a variety of programs in three categories: extracurricular student organizations, directed educational programs, and direct charitable support. Each category of programs provides students with different benefits to their learning and education, each serving an essential role in promulgating our mission and goals.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Valkyrie Robotics has developed a strong core of financial and volunteer support, including an organizational budget of $80,000 a year and more than 20 regularly involved adult volunteers.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
After four years of operation,Valkyrie Robotics is glad to have directly served more than three hundred students through our competitive programs, more than four thousand students indirectly through community outreach, and dozens of schools in California and Puerto Rico through any one of our educational enrichment programs. Students engaged in our programs have reported markedly higher rates of college attendance, pursuance of degrees in business or STEM, and overall educational success than the baseline, including high rates of admission to schools such as the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, San Diego, and those within the Ivy League system.
In the coming years, we seek to expand the membership of our core programs, including Valkyrie Robotics FRC#299, as well as to found new programs that will help us provide expanded opportunities for students in new areas, such as Santa Cruz County, San Francisco County, and Puerto Rico.
