What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The Susquehanna Valley has an overwhelming community cat over-population issue and our efforts are focused on reducing that over time, while also serving as a rescue for area cats and kittens in need of re-homing.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Pat's Fund

Pat's Fund provides financial support for rescued cats requiring additional veterinary care beyond typical vaccinations, pest-treatment, and spay/neuter, such as testing, x-rays, and surgeries.

Population(s) Served
Adults

The TNR Fund supports individuals in the local area working to spay and neuter feral and stray cats by providing financial support to cover the costs of surgery and vaccinations.

Population(s) Served
Adults

Our network of fosters and Affiliated Rescues accepts and cares for cats and kittens from the local area that are in need of new homes. All are appropriately vetted, including age-appropriate vaccines, timely spay/neuter (generally around 3-4 months), and SNAP testing for feline leukemia and FIV.

Population(s) Served
Adults

The Scratching Post serves as a unique adoption platform for cats and kittens in need of new homes. The cat "cafe" houses 10-14 adoptable cats that visitors can interact with-- just for the fun of it, or in the hopes of finding a good match. The Scratching Post is 100% volunteer managed and operated, and all proceeds are used to support the Cherished Cats mission.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

We strive to improve the lives of cats in central Pennsylvania.

Along with rescuing cats and kittens in need of homes, we financially and logistically support local efforts to spay and neuter feral and stray cats in the area with an ultimate goal of helping to reduce the population. We also work to educate the public about the importance of spaying and neutering their pets and neighborhood cats.

As a new organization our capabilities are limited by both space and funding. We are equipped to support 100-150 TNR (trap-neuter-release) surgeries per year, and will seek to increase this number in the future.

So far in 2019 we have supported the spay/neuter of more than 70 cats, and had more than 100 in the care of our foster network (more than 60 of which have been adopted).
