Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Payette Lakes Ski Club strives to provide affordable access to winter recreation for our community members and visitors. Our mission statement drives every decision our organization makes ensuring that access to the winter slopes and trails is attainable for everyone. Currently, Payette Lakes Ski Club is investing in much needed infrastructure updates to Little Ski Hill and Bear Basin Nordic Center. In order to not pass these costs on to our users, we are seeking foundational support to complete capital improvements.
After a decade of focusing our efforts on Bear Basin Nordic Center, Payette Lake Ski Club dove into the task of replacing its 49 year old t-bar lift and lights at Little Ski Hill. What began in 2019 with the replacement of the lift, is now wrapping up in 2023 with expanded lights to our Outback Terrain Park. This capital project is aiming to improve access and opportunity on terrain already operated by Little Ski Hill. The night-skiing light project will increase skiable acres after dark by 150%. This improves our organization's ability to provide programs and meet the growing demands of our community.
With the Lift, Lights, Little Hill project secured in 2023, PLSC's next goal will be to improve and increase parking at both facilities. Little Ski Hill and Bear Basin Nordic Center need additional parking to increase the access to our slopes and trails. Fundraising in 2024 and future years will focus on the construction of these new parking areas.
Payette Lakes Ski Club has 3 ultimate goals which drive our daily service in the West Central Mountain community.
- Never Turn a Child Away
-Expand Winter Activities
-Sustainability for Future Generations
Every project that is approved and installed by our team at Payette Lakes Ski Club has been and will be guided by these 3 goals. Whether it's through our After School Ski & Snowboard Program, the Town Race League, or Nordic Lessons, our mission and goals remain the same, and that is to improve and protect access to these activities for the well-being of everyone in our community.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Payette Lakes Ski Club operates in a way to provide high-quality winter recreation in affordable ways by supplementing ticket and program revenue with foundation grant support and private community fundraising. Currently, our organization receives nearly 22% of our annual funding needs through grant awards, and 26% from private fundraising. The other half of our annual income comes from revenue at our two facilities.
Payette Lakes Ski Club maintains many avenues for donors to get involved with our organization. We have an elite group of sustained high-level givers known as The Golden Ski Society. Our staff has trained extensively in recent years on donor relations and retention. PLSC executes a year of fundraising events to offset operational costs, including the locally-popular Ski Swap in October, and The Snow Ball in December. All of our events, whether on the snow or off, are affordable and accessible to everyone.
Recently, Payette Lakes Ski Club has focused on building strong relationships with charitable foundations for funding support. This support helps our organization see improvement projects through and improve daily operations without passing the costs along to user groups.
