Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Many of those in poverty have sub-standard housing. Sub-standard housing is defined as housing that is overcrowded, unsafe, non-existent (for the homeless) or too expensive (spending over 30% of the family's income on housing). According to the latest census numbers, 3,563 households live in sub-standard housing in Twin Falls alone. The total for the United States is 95 million people who have housing problems – almost a third of the country. But we can and are making a difference. Here in the Magic Valley, we have helped 54 families purchase a simple, decent and affordable home. Through shelter we empower! Internationally, Habitat has helped over 22 million families.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Serve as many families as possible each year. The need is great and is only growing.
With the help of the ReStore, Habitat is keeping millions of pounds of good, usable building materials out of our local landfill. By offering up the goods to the public at great prices, we are raising funds for homes and helping the community too. The growth of the ReStore is helping to cover nearly all of our overhead costs as our weekly fundraiser. With the mortgage payments each homeowner pays we are able to say each dollar donated to our mission is used to build the next home.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Habitat is reaching out to local business, clubs and organizations for help financially as well as with volunteers. Having a consistent volunteer force will help to keep overhead down and the bulk of funds gleaned from the ReStore going to build homes. Our build sites are filled with great partner families that are working hard to build a better future for their families. Volunteers are greatly needed.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With the help of the community, Habitat will continue to serve as many families as possible. The Magic Valley is very generous and helpful. Local businesses, donors and clubs come together when asked and have been a wonderful support to Habitat. We have a strong board that is helping to raise funds and awareness to the need for simple, decent, affordable homes in our community. The Magic Valley is growing so fast as is the need for home.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have served 54 families to date. Each family has worked for and is paying for a home that they own. As we serve more and more families Habitat becomes more self sufficient, as each monthly mortgage payment goes into the building fund for the next home owner. With the help of the ReStore we are also helping ourselves raise funds, but the need for funding still is great. Building a HOUSE is not inexpensive, but what a life changer a HOME can be!

- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
