Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our organization hopes to reduce overpopulation through spay/neuter services as well as provide affordable veterinary services to members of our community no matter their economic status. MCPAWS hopes to continue to house and treat stray and surrendered cats and dogs until we can find them appropriate and loving homes.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
MCPAWS spays/neuters, microchips and vaccinates every animal before it is made available for adoption. We offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics to low income community members, as well as free spay/neuter services to all feral cats brought to us in an effort to reduce overpopulation of cats and dogs in our community. We also continue to spay/neuter, vaccinate and microchip all shelter animals before they are made available for adoption.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
MCPAWS Regional Animal Shelter has a surgical suite and part-time veterinary staff to facilitate all spay/neuter surgeries and general medical care/vaccinations to our shelter animals. We also own a full-service veterinary hospital, purchased in 2020, to expand our services.
In 2022, MCPAWS Veterinary Hospital provided $12,500 in free veterinary services as part of Gracie's Fund - a program to help provide necessary, life-saving care for animals, when the owner can not afford the services without financial assistance. Since the development of this fund in 2020, we have helped 109 families and provided $28,000 in veterinary care.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have made an impact on the number of homeless dogs in our community. We attribute this to spay/neuter services and public outreach and education. We are continuing efforts to decrease the number of homeless cats in our community. We will continue to offer low-cost clinics and outreach to our community on the importance of spaying/neutering cats and dogs.

We will continue to provide valuable veterinary access to our community, no matter their economic standing through our Compassionate Community Program and Gracie's Fund. We believe that everyone should have access to affordable veterinary care. We hope to continue to expand this program.

- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
