Mission
The North American Packgoat Association is an organization established for promoting packing with goats. The organization seeks to further the pursuit of goat packing by sharing the knowledge, ideas, and experiences of its members, by promoting the use of packgoats to the public as a means of low impact wilderness access and recreation. Our mission is to promote the use and enjoyment of packgoats to improve, mentor, and encourage competency in the practice of goat packing; to provide communication and disseminate information; to promote scientific study of the caprine species, their care, welfare and training; to urge recognition of goat packing as a low impact stock alternative; and to establish traditions which will aid, perpetuate, and further the welfare of goat packing and of goats.

Urinary Calculi Epidemiological Research Study
NAPgA will be working with members, researchers, universities, and labs to conduct a citizen science research study into the underlying causes of urinary calculi in wethered male goats. This common condition has few treatment options and is often fatal. More information can be found here:

NAPgA Showing and Youth Programs
NAPgA recently produced a 67-page manual for project and showing guidelines for youth programs (for example, 4-H) that help guide kids, their goats, and their instructors through progressive levels of achievement.

Annual NAPgA Rendezvous
NAPgA hosts a Rendezvous every year in June in a different location around the west. This is an opportunity for packgoat enthusiasts to gather and share experiences, knowledge, expertise, and stories. Speakers teach classes, provide hands-on instruction, offer demonstrations on a variety of topics including goat training, care, management, husbandry, and equipment. Other topics usually include outdoorsmanship and environmental stewardship.
