Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Bullying at the Barn
Using the EAGALA model of equine psychotherapy we use horses to demonstrate different character attributes and responses to certain personalities and bullying occurences at the barn. Then we process appropriate responses and group work helps teach the power of standing up for each other.
Equine Therapy
Originally a family farm, The Pasture at Mercer Farm is an equine assisted psychotherapy center that combines refuge with reflection and growth. The peaceful surroundings provide a beautiful backdrop for education, spiritual enrichment, and me for rescued horses and donkeys.
EAGALA or Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association Model, is the global standard in equine counseling. The model consist of a mental health specialist, an equine specialist, and a horse, inside an enclosed arena with the client. EAGALA is about the horses doing the work of effecting change in a person's life.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Quality-To provide a high quality of metaphorical, experiential therapy through the use of equine. This organization is committed to serving all people and all age groups regardless of their ability to pay.
Protection- To offer protection to all animals and people who enter into the arena for therapy. This will be made available through strict adherence to the EAGALA model utilizing a certified equine specialist during therapy.
Integrity-To always put the well-being of clients first before anything else. Developing and maintaining a trusting relationship while establishing rapport between the clients, counselor and equine team.
Financially-It is resolved that all financial matters will be submitted to a board of directors for review and facilitation of expenditures. Will maintain a policy of "open books" and publish a record as requested as to where and how monies are spent.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The strategies for making this happen include; regularly scheduled board meeting reviewing areas of weakness and opportunities to improve services with a high level of accountability, a policy manual that outlines objectives and steps and procedures to ensure the organization has the necessary framework to drive toward success toward all goals, to periodically review the bylaws and standards of practice to make sure that all practices maintain a high level of quality and a drive toward the cutting-edge for stellar therapeutic practices.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are highly capable of achieving and maintaining the above stated by a well diversified board that includes; a banker, retired educator, parent (autistic-child), and spiritual mentor. Additionally, our staff and volunteers are well-trained and certified through the Equine Assisted Growth and Development Association. The staff also consists of a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who is supervised by an LPC-S who also holds a Doctorate in Divinity. The organization has also engaged Thompson, Price, Scott, Adams & Co., PA for accounting, auditing and billing services which will offer financial accountability.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Our organization has acquired 8 new equine that have come to our farm by way of refuge/rescue. Additionally, we have recruited 3 new volunteers, our client base has grown from 3 in the first month to 20 per week to date. Our referral sources are growing each day thorough word of mouth, social media and newspaper ads. We have also benefitted from in-kind contributions for feed, equine care, fencing, other barn improvements including new stalls and shelters. We have also had many light pole donations from Brunswick Electric Membership Cooperative for fencing and lighting. The electrician donated his services for the organizations electrical needs.
