Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Perinatal loss affects one out of four women and their families. Pregnancy and infant loss is such a taboo subject in many societies that there are few resources publicly available to aid grieving families. It is imperative for those who are suffering to receive comfort and guidance from the start.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Cuddle Cots
When grieving parents are forced to say hello and goodbye to their child, all the time in the world is never enough. Our wish is for every deceased infant and his or her family to be given the gift of time. A CuddleCot is an in-room cooling unit that is the size of a small humidifier disguised inside of a Moses basket. Research has proven that having a unit available to parents while they are in the hospital encourages families to spend time with their baby. This gift of time allows precious hours for bonding, pictures, plaster molds to be taken and other family members to come and meet the baby before the natural changes that occur in death become more apparent.
Care Packages
Emilia’s Wings offers care packages that are placed directly with area hospitals to be given to families during their hospital stay. Our care packages are carefully and intentionally curated to focus on the unending love between a parent and their child. The mission of our care package project is to provide comfort and compassion to families in the first days of their loss. Each box costs approximately $50.00 and includes a Pregnancy & Infant Loss book, Christmas ornament, car magnet, heart locket (with two pendants), an Angel feather bookmark, handwritten heartfelt note, and several online resources for families to reach out for support. We welcome and encourage patrons to donate a box in memory of a loved one. Follow the link below to make your donation today.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Emilia's Wings seeks to advocate for families suffering from all forms of pregnancy and infant loss. We raise funds to equip and enable area hospitals to improve the experiences and outcomes of pregnancy and infant loss patients. We aim to recognize and support other organizations that make a positive impact in their communities surrounding perinatal loss.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our philanthropic project is to raise funds to provide CuddleCots to area hospitals. A CuddleCot is an in-room cooling unit that is the size of a small humidifier disguised inside of a Moses basket. This gift of time allows precious hours for bonding, pictures, plaster molds to be taken and other family members to come and meet the baby before the natural changes that occur in death become more apparent. When grieving parents are forced to say hello and goodbye to their child, all the time in the world is never enough. Our wish is for every deceased infant and his or her family to be given the gift of time. We also provide local and nationwide resources to families to help aid them on their journey through healing and grief.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Emilia's Wings is supported in our mission by the generosity of donors within our communities. We use our first-hand knowledge of the grieving process to create reading materials and other resources to aid those who have suffered a loss. We have a website and a social media presence that we used to raise awareness and to distribute materials.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We coordinated a walk at an area hospital for families who have suffered a perinatal loss to honor and remember their children. We have raised 80% of the funds necessary to date to provide a CuddleCot to North Kansas City Hospital. We have also provided a monetary donation to fund the creation of a bereavement room to bring comfort to parents and families of recently deceased babies during their hospital stay. We crochet hats and bonnets for area hospitals to be provided to stillborn babies. We hope to expand our efforts as our organization continues to grow. Beginning in the summer of 2018, we will provide a memorial scholarship to high school graduates seeking a college education.
