What we aim to solve
The Foundation seeks to help high school graduates whose FAFSA indicates EFC of $15,000.00 or less attend certain colleges in Maine by providing scholarships to each student of, currently, up to $16,000.00 per student, and providing other support services and mentoring services to help the students succeed in college and graduate with manageable debt. The Foundation expects have a service program area of 6 counties in Mid-coastal Maine by 2020.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Foundation's vision is to provide scholarships and support services to Maine students in all regions who will attend Maine colleges,
partnering with like-minded organizations with similar goals to create a pathway to college for students in every region of Maine.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Foundation's staff provides mentoring services for Worthington Scholars. They attend the participating high schools and work with the schools, faculties, students and parents to provide information on applying for the Worthington Scholarship and college applications. Staff works with the participating colleges- any part of the University Maine system, including the community colleges, Maine Maritime Academy, Colby, Bates, Bowdoin, Thomas and Husson- to coordinate services for the Worthington Scholars. Staff organizes event on the campuses for the students. The Foundation hosts a student send-off event each August to provide information to the new Scholars. The Foundation organizes various other community events throughout the year such as career choices, job interview skills, leadership building. The Foundation actively engages the communities in providing meaningful internships to Worthington Scholars.

The Foundation has funding from its founder, David W. Worthington, and a very accomplished staff.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Foundation incorporated in April, 2017, and opened an office in the fall of 2017. It now has 3 full-time staff members to provide program services. It outsources accounting and scholarship payment services.
The Foundation expects to dramatically increase its programming and scholarship services beginning in 2019.
