Hoplite Resilience Center Inc
A Continuum of Care for All Who Have Served
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Our military personnel, veterans, and first responders or what we like to call our modern era “Hoplites,” have endured prolonged hardships and at times experienced repetitive stressful and or traumatic events to preserve our way of life. To perform and recover from within that type of operating/work environment you must be resilient. Unfortunately, not all of our Hoplites have the same resilience capabilities to overcome adversity and thrive. Our team at the Hoplite Resilient Center have each personally experienced losing friends and soldiers to combat, witnessed families devastated by a loss, struggled with the toll of serving, and the difficulty of being resilient, rebounding, and making sense of it all. Much like our own experiences, we recognize the unrelenting challenges military personnel, veterans, and first responders face day in and day out. It's our inspiration and reason for why the Hoplite Resilience Center exists.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Psychological Body Armor™
The argument may be made that the single most common reason for great potential to fail to translate into great achievement is the lack of resilience in the face of adversity. We all know of people, sports teams, and organizations that had great potential, but never gained the achievements that their respective aptitudes would have predicted. Simply stated, the purpose of this offering is to enhance PERSONAL RESILIENCE. We plan to teach the course over one-day or eight one-hour sessions either in person or virtually in a largely asynchronous environment (with pre-planned opportunities for interaction).
The course shall be taught by one of our resilience behavioral health certified instructors. The course focuses on teaching individuals resilient behaviors and strategies that help build the two interacting factors of resilience: 1) preventive resistance (immunity), and 2) reactive resilience (the ability to rebound from adversity). This notion of two-factor resilience is the essence of Psychological Body Armor™ and is that which makes this construction of resilience so unique. PBA can be applied to people, sports teams, communities, and organizations. Our aim is to help participants strengthen their resilience for the uphill climb ahead.
RESILIENCE LEADERSHIP
Organizations most likely to survive and prosper in times of adversity possess an "organizational culture of resilience.” Research has shown that resilient organizations that have created an atmosphere of trust have: 74% less stress, 106% more energy, 50% higher productivity, 13% fewer sick days, 76% more interpersonal connectedness, 29% more life satisfaction and sustainability.
The concept of Resilient Leadership was developed by Dr. Everly and published in his book of the same name. It has been referenced in the Institute of Medicine's 2013 monograph on building a resilient workforce. Its primary goal is to train managers to become leaders and to foster an organizational culture of resilience in whatever group of individuals they supervise. We plan to teach the course over a two-day period, or eight two-hour sessions either in person or virtually in a largely asynchronous environment (with pre-planned opportunities for interaction). The class will be taught by one of our resilience behavioral health certified instructors. The course specifically focuses on teaching strategies and best practices to develop resilient frontline leaders.
Ultimately, resilient leadership supports creating a culture of readiness and resilience that assists members of an organization to withstand crisis and adapt to and rebound from adversity, both in chronic and acute situations. Our goal is to help participants build resilient leadership skills and foster positive organizational growth.

What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
During our market research and analysis, we considered potential competitors that provided mental/behavioral health services or leveraged a resiliency-based curriculum as part of their methodology to military personnel, veterans, first responders, and first care receivers. We found no organization that was relatively similar to our own. We did identify several organizations that provide services that compete with areas of our Center’s full continuum of care services, but not in its entirety. Most importantly from our research, we found that no organization provided care through all stages of mental health needs for veterans, military personnel, first responders, first care receivers, and their families. We identified that Hoplite Resilience Center services were needed to help the current challenges our veterans, military personnel, and first responders and their families face, address the shortage of services, raise more awareness towards mental health stigma, and provide a more comprehensive approach to all stages of behavioral health needs.
Of the available nonprofit and for-profit programs currently in the industry, none leverage a full continuum of care resilience model that provides the reach-back capability that could drastically improve the lives of what we like to call our modern era "Hoplites." None of the organizations we researched, provide a comprehensive, resilience-based continuum of care model that applies the latest science-based techniques as well as a personal peer-to-peer interaction approach. The Center formed its continuum of care system and resilience curriculum after the Johns Hopkins model of human resilience. The Hoplite Resilience Center's continuum of care model provides pre-acute, acute, and post-acute care through several advanced resilience-based programs. Our programs practice two
interacting factors of resilience: 1) preventive resistance (immunity), and 2) reactive resilience (the ability to rebound from adversity). Our nonprofit organization is dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals and their families who have served and may continue to serve, this nation through their service in the military, emergency services, and emergency hospital care.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The Hoplite Resilience Center's current educational curriculum is made possible under a strategic agreement with Dr. George S. Everly, Jr. He serves on the faculties of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, and the Loyola College in Maryland. We are fortunate to partner with Dr. Everly in two capacities: 1) by utilizing his researched and field-tested curricula (described below), and 2) having him serve as Hoplite’s senior advisor on the subject of human resilience and behavioral health. Rather than incur the formidable expenses associated with creating our own proprietary curricula, we have chosen to enter into a strategic agreement with Dr. Everly. This content has been taught nationally and internationally as free-standing workshops, as well as, components within larger educational curricula. Currently, Hoplite is providing face to face training but is prepared and poised to enter the eLearning niche market that supports Military, Veteran, and First Responder organizations. Contingent on funding, Hoplite intends to develop and own its proprietary curricula in the near future.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Currently, Hoplite is providing face to face training but is prepared and poised to enter the eLearning niche market that supports Military, Veteran, and First Responder organizations. Contingent on funding, Hoplite intends to develop and own its proprietary curricula in the near future. At this time, Hoplite and Dr. Everly have prepared extensive researched material and current face-to-face course offerings to be digitally designed and uploaded into a national LMS resource.
