What we aim to solve
The Nebraska Brass Band works towards bringing awareness of British- style brass banding to the great state of Nebraska and beyond. The British- style of brass banding is rich in history, going back to the coal mines in Northern England. The colliery bands brought the surrounding communities together through a common theme, music. The Nebraska Brass Brand recognizes the need of having a strong community and is working to bring the communities of Nebraska together in music.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The mission of The Nebraska Brass Band is to develop musical ability through intense rehearsals which helps develop artistic talent; involvement of young people, adults, and senior citizens alike in musical performance, the commissioning of new pieces for brass bands; and carry out community-based work to engage a wider scope of audiences for the enjoyment and enrichment of the public and its' communities throughout Nebraska.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Nebraska Brass Band has open rehearsals and welcomes anyone to attend. Students and fans alike often stop in to hear the band fine tune each piece in the repertoire. This also allows for young students to visit with the band members, discuss technique, and develop a mentoring relationship. The Nebraska Brass Band has four major concerts per program year. The concerts each have a unique theme and offer a wide variety of music to every listener, whether young or old. The Nebraska Brass Band also involves itself with the community. During the holiday season, the band partnered with The Salvation Army to bring awareness to the Angel Tree program. Concert attendees were asked to bring a toy as a donation for the Angel Tree, which provides toys for families in need.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
To meet the goals that The Nebraska Brass Band has established, the board of directors consistently meets together and discusses best practices. The Nebraska Brass Band has also made the majority of concerts free to help bring in families that would not have otherwise attended. The Nebraska Band Band truly is a band for the entire state. Although based in Omaha, Nebraska the band also holds concerts in Lincoln, Nebraska and Kearney, Nebraska among others.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
The Nebraska Brass Band has had a tremendous program year. The band has sold out every concert and is having to search out larger venues. The Nebraska Brass Band is maxed out in members, and has musicians on a waiting list to join the band. The Nebraska Brass Band will be helping the Omaha Public Library System by providing a program during the summer for children and families. The band has also been invited to perform for the opening night of the Glenn Miller Festival in Clarinda, Iowa. The Nebraska Brass Band has developed a plan for growing and reaching more communities; in this plan are goals to record a CD and introduce a youth band to help foster musical development in youngsters.
