What we aim to solve
In schools throughout our country, children as young as 5 years old can be denied a hot lunch meal at school lunch due to having a delinquent lunch account balance. Some schools offer alternate meals to these children which can be as minimal as a cheese sandwich. Some children experience lunch shaming and have their food thrown out in front of them or are subjected to other forms of humiliation. All for Lunch, we believe no child should be denied lunch at school due to their inability to pay. We work tirelessly to pay off existing delinquent lunch accounts and then fund All for Lunch Reserve Accounts at schools to cover children as they run out of funds. About 1 in 6 children in our country are identified as being food insecure which means that they do not know where their next meal is coming from. For many of these kids, school lunch may be their only guaranteed meal of the day. We work to make sure every child has access to lunch at school, regardless of their situation at home.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
At All for Lunch, we aim to make sure every child has access to lunch, regardless of their financial situation at home. For children as young as 5 years old living in food insecurity, school lunch may be their only meal of the day. Because of this, we work to eliminate school lunch debt and fund All for Lunch Reserve Accounts. If a child ever finds they do not have money in their lunch account to pay for their meal, rather than have the meal taken away the All for Lunch Reserve Account will cover the cost. We also partner with food pantries to keep them stocked with lunch items so that children living in food insecurity continue to have access to these essential meal items.
We want children in school to be able to focus on learning and being a child rather than carrying the burden of financial situations that are completely out of control. All for Lunch and Lunch for All!
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
We work with school nutrition managers and principals to identify the lunch debt and need at each individual school. Once we have identified the debt, we pay off the balance and then allocate funds to the All For Lunch Reserve Account. We stay in constant contact with the school cafeteria managers to guarantee the Reserve Account remains funded as the children utilize the account.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We work directly with the schools to understand exactly what their need is in regard to eliminating school lunch debt and how to best tackle the challenges they face on a monthly basis. We then work with local members of the community to raise awareness of the issues and secure donors to help support their local schools with the goal of eliminating the school lunch debt and ensuring no child is denied a school lunch due to their financial situation.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
114 Schools have been made lunch debt-free covering the cost of over 13,000 lunches and over 6000 lunch items have been sent to food pantries to provide access to essential meal items for children living in food insecurity
