Help for cats and dogs with cancer
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
When a family has a pet with cancer, there is often veterinary treatment available that could cure or manage the cancer for years. Too often, that beloved pet cannot receive treatment only because the owner cannot afford it. It is heartbreaking for the owner to watch as their pet's life is taken by cancer, unable to help them.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Financial assistance for canine cancer treatment
Provide financial assistance for families that have a dog or cat with cancer but cannot afford treatment fees.
Chemotherapy Drugs

Context Notes
We have put 850 dogs and cats in U.S.through cancer treatment. Owners couldn't afford treatment fees. Not all are still alive, they all had a chance to beat cancer, and wouldn't have without our help.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Magic Bullet Fund provides assistance to families that can't afford to pay for cancer treatments for their pet, in hopes that owner and pet will gain additional years together. However cancer treatment in pets offers no more guarantee of success than does cancer treatment in humans.
At the very least, if treatment is not successful and cancer progresses in spite of treatment, the Fund aims to give owners the peace of mind knowing that they did not stand by and watch as their pet succumbed to cancer. Their unfortunate financial problems did not deprive their pet of an opportunity to survive longer. They did provide treatment and fight for their pet's life.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Magic Bullet Fund reviews applications carefully to find the cases where the owner truly cannot afford to pay for their pet's cancer treatment, and where the pet will have a good prognosis for long survival after treatment. Those who donate to the fund understand that because we make these efforts, their donation will be used wisely. And that if the pet they donated for cannot complete treatments, the funds will be used to help another carefully selected pet fight cancer.
The Fund requires that owners pay what they are able to, we request a non-profit discount from the clinic. We request allowance to order drugs for the pets having chemotherapy when clinic fees are inflated. After these calculations are made, we raise donations to cover the balance amount needed for the pet to complete cancer treatment.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have been doing this for 14 years, and have developed systems and procedures to consistently and successfully accomplish our goals. We have helped almost 700 dogs through cancer treatment. There are 30 volunteers across the country, who each do a small or large part of the work.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have helped almost 850 dogs through cancer treatment. For most, we have given the dog and owner significant additional time together. For all of them, we have given the owner the ability to feel that they did what they could to help their pet survive cancer, despite the owner's financial challenges.
We have recruited a workforce of 30 reliable volunteers. We have developed a workflow that allows us to review applications carefully and efficiently, and communicate with the pets; owners; with veterinary medical staff; and with the people who donate to help the dogs.
