Programs and results
What we aim to solve
NMAAS uses the hobby of stamp collecting as a resource to educate on black history. Celebrating and highlighting the African American individuals featured on the stamps is an opportunity to reflect on the slavery experience but to also introduce and expand on the gains and contributions African Americans have made in society.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Community Outreach and Pop-Up Exhibits
Through partnerships with libraries, expos, conferences and summits, we have an opportunity to encourage the hobby of stamp collecting while sharing African Americans on stamps through pop-up exhibits all year. These diversity and inclusion events are educational for everyone that attends and sparks courageous conversations for the community. As a travelling exhibit we can expand our reach and customize our offerings beyond the 5 areas below.
We recently launched the Stamp Kits for Kids program. We add information, stamps and pictures about African Americans on Stamps as the kits are often missing African American pieces.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The National Museum of African Americans on Stamps is another resource to expose society to the rich history of African Americans. They are exposed to the hobby of stamp collecting, a hobby that needs more exposure, and ensures that there is a diverse and inclusive presence in the stamp collecting and exhibiting arena of stamp shows, competitions, social media, and literature.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
NMAAS has displays at libraries, conferences or special events. Speaking at schools and providing starter stamp kits for kids is utilized. There will be participation in stamp shows and events where exposure can be obtained like a table at a Trivia nights. We will be an online co-host for events with an African American theme such as Tell The We Are Rising that will be on PBS. We will be sending out tweets and other social media posts supporting this viewing.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are well versed and equipped to carry out the programs we have planned. As a 26 year stamp collector, Charlene Blair has a variety of stamps to be framed and displayed. As a 30 year administrative professional with a Masters in Management, Ms. Blair is capable of event planning and management. The treasurer and financial secretary have over 20 years in financial management and education experience.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have been featured on blogs, fundraising on #GivingTuesday brought in over $500, we will have two interns added in 2018 for media and exhibit assistance and we are on track for successful events and to turn in our 990 on time.
